About Me

“Only closed minds are certain.”

Since moving back to Singapore in 2010 from New Zealand after being deemed “too tall” to play a hobbit (while “too small” for anything else), Kirsten has been working on documentary and film projects. Being involved in the whole production process from research to shoot to post-production has earned Kirsten the description of being a “potato” (i.e. multi-purpose). She now works under the name Spudnik Productions.

As an extension of her spud-like qualities, Kirsten is the editor of online magazine SEA Youth Say So, and the co-founder of anti-death penalty campaign We Believe In Second Chances. She was the deputy editor of Singaporean socio-political website The Online Citizen, and is currently a contributor to Global Voices.

She is constantly seeking opportunities to travel, collecting stories and taking photographs. Despite being an Internet addict, she has survived two weeks in the jungle along the Thai border without WiFi (or electricity) teaching Karen youth basic public speaking skills and how to play UNO.

Kirsten won the Best Y Bloggist award in the Singapore Blog Awards 2011, and is on far too many social media platforms for her own good.

    Dear Miss Han,

I am a student at the university of Amsterdam. At this moment I am in the end phase of my study and have started to conduct research for my thesis to complete my master in political science. In my thesis and related research I aim at analyzing blogs in Singapore that focus on Singaporean politics, including for instance political issues, political system critics etc.

I would be very grateful if you could send me the links of the most authoritative or well known and well regarded blogs writing about Singaporean politics you know next to your own blog. Maybe you have friends who also write on these matters. If you could forward my e-mail to them and ask them to respond to me, that would be great. Alternatively you could send me their e-mail address or url so that I can contact them myself.

I have one more request. Is it possible that you would cooperate with me and that you answer some questions I will send to you in a few weeks? The questions will be about blogging in Singapore.

Thank you very much for your help!

    Yours sincerely,

    Sarah Nienke van Voorthuisen

        • It’s the default header at the moment, I’ll be working on one of my own in a moment. Right now I am trying to figure out how the sticky posts work and it is killing me I am just about ready to lie down and DIE.

Kirsten, can I have your permission to post your piece about submitting the petition for Yong Vui Kong at the Istana on the website of the Bar Council Malaysia? We’d like to do it as soon as possible, so please get back to me as soon as you can. Thanks.

    • Thank you! I’m hoping to be able to up the stakes and try to make this blog better from now on! Hopefully I will have more time and stuff to blog about, too. There are some periods where I just can’t think of anything that I want to write about, and it’s terrible when I hit this dry spell.
