750words.com – It’s either saved my life, or ruined it.
Lynn introduced me to 750words.com, a tool that has helped motivate her to write and feel kick-ass even before she gets out of bed every morning. It’s a pretty good idea: a site that encourages you to write 750 words a day, sending your reminders to your email and awarding you points for the tasks that you have completed. It gives you the freedom to write whatever you like (and keep it private), pushing you to just keep going.
I’m currently on Day 3 of my 750words journey, and I am not sure if my life has been saved or ruined. It doesn’t really have anything to do with 750words in itself, but more to do with the fact that I am, deep down, a quintessential kiasu Singaporean with addictive/obsessive characteristics.
750words gives you points depending on how much you write. You get points for hitting the 750 mark. You get extra for going over 750 words, writing without distractions, or writing for many days consecutively. You also get to have badges for certain achievements. All this feeds into my competitive obsessive-compulsive nature.
